Why did the three friends decide against going on a sea trip? What was their final decision?

The three men decided against a sea trip because of sea sickness..... the time allotted would likely mean they'd spend their entire journey sick, only to get their sea legs and feel better when the trip was nearly over. Thus, they decide to take a boat trip down the Thames River instead.
