The first voyage Jerome describes is a sea voyage. A brief vacation, during which time the vacationer spends most of his time battling with seasickness. By the time the seasickness goes away.... the voyage is over.
The second type of voyage is the voyage upriver... a trip on the River Thames. This voyage is aptly described for its constant change of scenery, hard work, lots of fresh air, and a good night's sleep.
