Okonkwo looks down on men who are not successful. He feels that men who do not struggle and become successful, like he did, are weak. He once insulted a man at a town meeting, implying that the man was a woman. The man had no titles. Okonkwo was reprimanded, and a village elder said that the fortunate should show humility; yet Okonkwo has never been fortunate. Everything he has he has earned himself.
