CHAPTER 9.
CHAPTER 9.
This chapter is the third major denouement in Janie's life and her period of adjustment to a life without Joe. Joe has died and she needs to decide how she will move on.
Janie is in conflict with herself. It is the inner conflict of a young woman left alone as a widow coming into her own. Janie didn't have a good marriage, and she wasn't sad, although she wore a mask of sorrow for the outside world. She had to contain the joy she felt with her new found freedom, and yet she blossomed in every way.
