Their Eyes Were Watching God
What does the author means that "Joe's funeral was the finest thing Orange County had ever seen with Negro eyes?"
answer?
answer?
Joe was sort of Negro Royalty in Orange Country. He was a "little emperor" who deserved a lavish funeral, as long as his estate could pay for it. Negros were used to humble funerals out of economic necessity. Joe had set himself up as a visionary messiah of sorts who needed an appropriate farewell.
