Explain how and why Kit Tyler comes to be in Wethersfield, Connecticut. What is her reaction to Connecticut and the community she joins?

Kit Tyler's parents are dead, and she has been raised by her grandfather in Barbados. When her grandfather died, she was left alone and without money. Thus she traveled to America to live with her aunt in Wethersfield. Life in Wethersfield is far different from Barbados, as her family is very religious. Thus, although her aunt and uncle are happy to have her, Kit's uncle also disapproves of her mannerisms and dress. Kit has a difficult time adjusting to the severity of the Puritan town. She also finds it difficult to get used to the cold weather and hard work.
