What effect did The Wave have on the relationship between David and Laurie?

Laurie begins to get pretty creeped out with David's involvement with Mr.Ross's fascist simulation. Laurie becomes increasingly afraid of David's obsession and David becomes increasingly agitated, almost aggressive, as Laurie refuses to buy into the ideology.
