How was Truman's freedom taken away?

Truman's freedom was taken away the moment his life became manipulated by the outside forces of producers and television crews. He couldn't make his own decisions, never learned to experience his own fears, didn't choose his own wife, and furthermore, was never allowed to do anything that would be considered off script by those in control. The treatment Truman received from society was most certainly unethical.
