Hellena is a noblewoman, who early on, is destined for a nunnery. She is an outspoken, intelligent, confident, and filled with curiosity. She is also extremely independent and determined to make her own decisions. Hellena is critical of religion and resents her family's desire to send her to the nunnery. As a result, she uses all of her cunning to defy their expectations.
Willmore (The Rover) lives most of his life at sea and is continuously moving from place to place. He is fickle with women, and his "women" change from one port to the next. Unlike Hellena, he acts impetuously and without thought. He is also quick to anger, and the first to draw his sword.
