the red badge of courage chapter 6-8

Henry is getting more and more nervous as the Union troops approach. Battle is not as exciting as he first envisioned. The battle begins and there is chaos. A man near him, who had been working on his rifle, suddenly stops and runs screaming. Others begin to run as well. Henry then yells with fright, swings about, and charges for the rear. Henry loses his direction and bearings. As others run away from the battle, Henry finds himself running as well. He runs out of instinct: an instinct of self-preservation.
