The Princess Bride was originally published in the 1970s. Does it reflect the trends of this time period, or does the original publication date seem surprising? What is its place in American literary history? How is the book also timeless?

To some extent, this is a satire of fairy tales many of us have grown up with. The film version, however, has its own unique tone and charm to it. I'm not sure how the book fits in with American literary history. I think it is just a really fun and inviting story.
