Why does Machiavelli cite the story of David and Goliath?
Machiavelli writes his own account concerning the story of David and Goliath. He rewrites the story in order to discount the Bible and in doing so implies that David accomplished killing the giant with nothing more than his own strength and wits. His intent is to take God out of the equation. His point it to draw a parallel between the stories of Hiero and David.
