What impression do you form of the narrators mental state ?

From the text, we can infer that Ponyboy is a young man suffering from the overwhelming grief of losing his parents. His entire life has changed, his relationship with his oldest brother has changed, as Darry can no longer be the easygoing older brother, now that he is acting as mother and father too. Ponyboy feels neglected, put upon, and without direction. Note, all of these feeling would be considered normal for a child who has suddenly lost his parents in an accident.
