How Vera fooled Mr. Framton ? What effect it has on him?

Vera tells Framton a long, drawn out story...... completely fictional but using real characters (her aunt). He believes the story word for word, and when her story is negated by the appearance of Mrs. Sappleton's husband, he believes the house is being approached by ghosts, and terrified...... he runs away.
