What is gogol's birth significance?

Gogol is the protagonist of the story. He is a boy so he has many dreams of the family invested in him.

He is the elder child of the Bengali parents Ashoke and Ashima, that too a boy, and so his parents expect him to pass on the Bengali cultural heritage from generation to generation - as he is the one from whom the Benagli lineage will continue.
