They Importance of Conflict In “The Most Dangerous Game”
What would you do if you were hunted by a murderer? I would be scared, but the protagonists in “The Most Dangerous Game” stayed calm and survive. The many conflicts in this story build suspense for the reader. Three of the major conflicts in this story are, man vs. man, man vs. self, and man vs. nature.
In the short story, “The Most Dangerous Game,” one of the major conflicts is man vs. man. For example, when Zaroff challenges Rainsford, “Your brain against mine. Your woodcraft against mine. Your strength and stamina against mine. Outdoor chess! And the stake is not without value, eh?” (p 18). This shows one of the major external conflicts in the story. This is important because if Rainsford loses the most dangerous game he will die, which builds suspense for the reader.

For example, when Rainsford is being showed fear, “Rainsford…was awakened by the sound that made him know that he had new things to learn about fear.” (p 22).
