Rainsford and General Zaroff. Which one is more fully characterized? Are both characters plausible?
To some extent, the two characters were alike. They were both smart, intelligent hunters. Strategy was a part of their everyday lives, but Zaroff ended up becoming rather crazy. He makes his "game" a srictly human competition placing Rainsford as the most important piece on the board. Zaroff is cruel and unfeeling but then Rainsford has a similar disregard for living creatures as well. We are given more detail about General Zaroff's past. Both are pretty flat characters. General Zaroff is the more rediculous of the two. He lives in a gothic castle on an uninhabited island with nobody but Ivan, who can't talk, for company. He sleeps in the day and hunts people at night for fun!
