Should we make anything of Rainsford’s initial attraction to Zaroff? Are the two men similar?

Initially, Rainsford finds Zaroff to be a kindred spirit. They both love the challenge of a good hunt and are constantly attempting to find more elusive prey. This attraction ends when Rainsford discovers that Zaroff's tastes now run to hunting humans.
