Do "Zaroffs"- people whose manners mask their true nature- exist in real life? Explain.

I think we all mask our true intentions to some extent. Zaroff is just an extreme example of this. I suppose some politicians and salesmen are especially good at this as well. Masking ones real intentions behind manners is a common human trait. Zaroff happened to be versed in etiquette and hospitality as well.
