Initially, Mr. White does not have a lot of faith in the magic paw. He has all that he needs but decides he will test the paw with an obligatory wish. Herbert suggests he pay the mortgage off so Mr. White asks for 200 pounds. Mr. White is done with the paw's ominous power but, after finding out Herbert is dead, Mrs. White demands that Mr. White wish him back to life. By the time zombie Herbert shows up, Mr. White wants nothing to do with the paw. He loathes the paw but uses it to send zombie Herbert away.
