Why did Thomas say he was baffled by Teresa in Ch. 36?

Thomas is baffled by Teresa because he knows her voice but cannot place it. They are also able to communicate telepathically, but neither understands why. Like Thomas, Teresa is confused by disjointed memories. Thomas wants her to remember anything she can to see if together they can solve the mystery.
