The Maze Runner

I need help with "The Maze Runner"

How does the author describe society and the time in which the novel takes place?
How do the cultural and political conditions of the time come about in the work?

I suck at this :(

The Maze Runner is a dystopian novel, meaning that the majority of society is either struggling under massvie oppression, disease, and dehumanization by the small faction that acutually rules by their own rules.

Those living in the maze have been put there without consent, and they are regularly manipulated by those in charge. The inhabitants are constantly surveyed and tested, and when one of them crosses the line, they are promptly infected by a man-made illness.... they are poisoned and driven crazy.

In this novel, the first of the series, we are not given much information about the "structure" of society.... only that WICKED is wicked, and that those who live in the maze must discover a way to escape if they wish to live.
