Frenchie becomes so desperate that he eavesdrops, doing anything he can to learn the old language. He listens in on a story about Rogarou, which is only meant for the girls, staying “in my room until they were settled, then I crept into the hall and settled by the open door” (Demaline 66). Language then becomes the way in which Frenchie grounds himself and his identity. Check this out:
