Were you surprised by the ending of the story? If not, at what point did you know what was going to happen? How does Jackson foreshadow the ending?

This asks for your opinion rather than mine. I found the ending of the story consistent with the increasing desperation and emotional trauma displayed by the narrator being trapped in the room.
