Why did Edmund want to betray the others? did he think of his actiond as betrayal?

Edmund seemed to have issues at the beginning of the story. He felt a little isolated and angry from the rest of his siblings. The white Witch and the Turkish Delight compelled Edmund even more to betray his brother and sisters.
