Over the course of the novel, we come to see Granny as a woman of great physical and emotional strength. We also come to see that she has a long memory..... the she holds onto a grudge and doesn't forget the great wrong done to her by the man who left her at the altar. She is proud of her role as wife and mother...... yet, not sure enough to presume it was good enough.
