    Students will explore the ways in which the era in which a play is produced or adapted effect the director's interpretation

    Common Core Standards:

    Structure:

    Obtain copies of the 1952 and 2002 film adaptations of The Importance of Being Earnest. Show students both version's portrayal of the first part of Act I, from Jack's entrance until the arrival of Gwendolen and Lady Bracknell. As they watch, have students take notes on how each version seems to interpret the scene. Here are some leading questions students can consider:
