The Hunger Games

Why the hell are people studying The Hunger Games as a piece of literature?

Please answer fully and completely with a deep explanation and analysis of the themes that compose the book. Maybe I'm just missing something here, but I thought that this particular novel was a shallow, vapid piece of pop culture crap.

I think you had to look at the Hunger Games in context. It is young adult literature hence it has the requisite romance, action , teenaged angst....I think Hunger Games runs a bit deeper than say the Twilight franchise. The Hunger Games is a dystopia which deals with some deeper and darker themes than your average teen story. That said, it is a fun read and a page turner.
