Why did Haymitch accept himself to the hunger games? Also, why does Gale think that Katniss likes Peeta?

I meant Haymich had little choice. He was allowed to live winning his games training new kids was part of the deal.

He had no choice. Gale sees the "romance" unfold on the screens.

Well, since all of my friends' answers were DELETED BY JILL AND HER CRIMINAL BOYFRIEND ASLAN... Haymitch had absolutely no choice...
