What does Clara's reaction show about her personality and relationship to Uncle Marcos?

Clara is lives in what we would see as a somewhat surreal world. She was enthralled by Uncle Marcos' stories, as well as his collection of books and magical objects. When Uncle Marcos's corpse is delivered to the del Valle household, Clara insists on keeping a decrepit puppy that is among his belongings.
