There are a couple of ways to view this. On one hand, Matt is genetically engineered to provide spare parts for El Patrón. He was made by many people. On the other hand, Matt refuses to become a a receptacle of spare parts. For his resistance, he needs the help of others like Celia and Tam Lin.
