How do the elves and dwarves feel about each other?

Elves and Dwarves have a long history of tension. In The Silmarillion Eru observes that there will be strife between Elves and Dwarves. Later in the First Age Dwarves attacked an Elven kingdom..... It is an ancient rivalry. When Thingol was ruling Doriath he was slain in the last years of the FA by Dwarves.
