How did bilbo and the dwarfs escape from the Elvenking's domain?

The dawarves are locked in the dungeon because Thorin refuses to tell the King why they've come to Mirkwood. Bilbo steals the keys from the chief of guards, unlocks the doors to the dwarves cells, and gets them all into barrels which he pushes into the river.
