The dwarves were captured by the elves while wandering through the forest. They were exhausted, hungry, and thirsty..... they'd just been involved in their battle against the spiders. When they were brought to the Evenking, the king ordered them to be unbound. The dwarves were imprisoned only after they refused to answer all of his questions.
