The dwarves argue about who will enter Smaug's cave and since Bilbo is the burglar, Bilbo must go ahead and face the challenge. Bilbo is rightly terrified of this challenge but feels that he must live up to his end of the bargain: being the burglar, even if it means stealing from a dragon!
