Khalil’s reasons for getting involved with the King.

Kahlil got involved with selling drugs after his grandmother lost her job at the hospital because she was too sick to work. He says that he gave into King and started selling because he was tired of “choosing between lights and food.”

DeVante later tells Starr that Kahlil refused to join the King Lords gang, and that he only sold drugs to repay the money Brenda, Kahlil's mother, stole from King.
