How does Casy help Tom out of trouble with the deputy sheriff?

Tom and several men get into a heated argument with a deputy sheriff over workers ability to join a union. The argument turns violent. Jim Casy knocks the sheriff unconscious to give Tom time to escape. Casey is arrested by the Police.
