At heart, Tom is an artist.... a poet. In the real world, however, he is a source of financial support for both his mother and sister. Tom feels trapped in the life he leads, and though he loves both Amanda and Laura, he yearns to be free from the responsibility of living for them and sacrificing his own dreams.
