I'm not sure who you mean by the "others" or the "speaker". The society Jonas lives in is a dystopia. It is a tightly controlled and regulated place. Most people in the comity thane things at face value. Their emotions are one dimensional. They are, more or less, like children taking their cue from the Elders. Jonas is different as he matures he begins to realize that there is something very wrong with the community. Your question is rather vague so if you can be more specific, it would help.
