When does Jonas experience his first lie?

In chapter 16, Jonas is reprimanded when he asks about if his parents love him. His parents give him a gentle rebuke for using the word love,

There was an awkward silence for a moment. Then father gave a little chuckle. "Jonas. You, of all people. Precision of language, please!"
"What do you mean?" Jonas asked. Amusement was not at all what he had expected.
"You father means that you used a very generalized word, so meaningless that it's become almost obsolete," his mother explained carefully.

When they ask if Jonas now understands his mistake, Jonas lies and says yes. Jonas is actually not satisfied with what they just told him.
