The one-legged farmer receives help plowing his fields from the Union soldiers. In return, the farmer shares his produce. The story takes place during the Civil War. Like the soldiers, Granpa helps the family. Initially, he tries to protect them..... seeing the Union soldiers as a threat. Later, he provides them all with freshly caught fish.
