Anne is an insightful strong willed adolescent. I think beyond these qualities she is also an average teenage girl trying to cope with coming of age. Anne has the usual mother adolescent daughter / mother conflicts. These are magnified because of the close quarters they live in all the time,
"Margot’s and Mother’s personalities are so alien to me. I understand my girlfriends better than my own mother. Isn’t that a shame? "
Anne discovers "young love",
"Whenever I go upstairs, it’s always so I can see "him." Now that I have something to look forward to, my life here has improved greatly."
So, I'd say that although Anne is a resilient articulate young woman, she is still a typical teenage girl trying to survive under difficult circumstances.
