Explain the argument regarding Reverend Paris salary. What does this about Reverend Paris ?

There is an argument about who is responsible for Reverend Parris's firewood. Parris and Giles argue over the question of whether Parris is entitled to an extra six pounds for firewood expenses. Parris claims that the six pounds are part of his salary and that his contract stipulates that the community provide him with firewood. Giles counters that Parris had has no claim for the deed to his (Parris’s) house. Parris counters yet again that he deserves the deed to the parish house so he can't just be thrown out if the town doesn't want him.
