please describe how the level of manipulation the younger characters are subject to is bad for them and not justifiable

the younger characters include: Valentine, Maximilien, Albert, and Eugenie Danglars.

Manipulation is usually not a good thing. Edmond would have figured out that he was manipulated once he landed in prison. This precipitates his hunger for revenge. Edmond is able to turn the tables on Fernand, Danglars, and Villefort. All these guys find out they were manipulated by Edmond. Manipulation is really a clever theme that fuels much of the excitement in the story.
