what is Lady Philosophy's doctrine of the origin of evil?

Boethius' account of evil is similar to Augustine's in that it understands evil to be substance-less (literally non-existent) in its "essence." Therefore it is not so much that evil exists independently of good--rather, it is that evil is the absence of good in the first place.
