Because of this part of her personality, she is always in trouble, and she ultimately gets in trouble and is sentenced to 12 years in jail by the mayor whom she defies. Her sentence is reduced when she is forced to work as a maid to the mayor for 12 years instead of spending the time in jail. The mayor's daughter tries to find support from Sofia when Sofia works for the family; Sofia, however, lets the years of abuse cloud her vision. Ultimately the mayor's daughter sees the injustice and cares for Sofia's daughter Henrietta.
