The Catcher in the Rye
Is Holden a good student? How does Mr.Spencer reveal this?
In Chapter 2
In Chapter 2
Holden is not a good student. In his conversation with Mr. Spencer we learn that he never opens his books, makes no attempt to learn about anything he is engaged in, and doesn't care about his grades. Holden makes no effort to apply himself and no concept of rules. One example Mr. Spencer used to illustrate this was Holden's history paper on the Egyptians and attached note.
