Chaucer seems to have admired the Skipper's sense of adventure and love of travel. He didn't however appove of the Skipper's purposely lying to his men about the theft of the wine (the Skipper steals the wine). The Skipper also showed no sympathy or mercy to his prisoners, another fact the author disapproves of.
