Anna was the first girl that Oscar never made an idiot of himself with. He didn't have time to "raise his usual level of nonsense...or wild expectations". Instead they talked quite freely. Their verbal exchange seems to have a similar vibe. Oscar feels he doesn't need to try as much. They both liked science fiction and went on a "date" to see a movie "manhunter". Although they are never intimate, it is one of the few instances of Oscar relating with a girl.
