What type of man is Bruno's father?

Bruno's father is hard, narrow minded, and often cruel. As the commander of a Nazi concentration camp, we can also infer that he is without compassion or empathy...... unfeeling. Bruno's father is, however, kind to his children.

Bruno's father, Ralf, is often quite cruel exclaiming, in chapter five, that the males in the concentration camp are not people at all. He is, hower quite kind to his son and daughter, Bruno and Gretel, respectively.
